Wat Sri Chum

Wat Sri Chum is part of Sukhothai Historical Park. Located outside of Sukhothai Old Town In the North West, the word "Sri" comes from the native Thai word "Sa le". It means "the Bodhi tree" when it comes together as "Sri Chum", meaning jungle of Bodhi tree.

The unique character of this wat is the old temple. Surrounded by greenery. It is a rectangular building, like a mondop roof but because it collapses. It is assumed that the roof is curved like a dome. When there is no roof, there are only four sides of wall. Build by strong brick masonry and no window.

Inside the temple is enshrined "Phra al Jana" stucco Buddha statue large. The lap width is 11.3 meters, which is currently seen in the restoration of the new in 2496-2499 B.E.

In addition, within the wall, there is a second inscription called "Sri Chum Temple Inscription", which tells the story of the founding of the Sukhothai Kingdom. And the old paintings are more than 700 years old, and the top of the ceiling of the staircase is also a large slate carved patterns of allegories are approximately 50 images.
